’45 and proud’: Tiwa Savage shuts down critics for age shaming her

Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has openly discussed age, timing, and self-acceptance, emphasizing that she proudly embraces her age of 45 as a badge of honour rather than a weakness.

In an interview with Korty EO, the singer dismissed age-shaming completely, expressing her love for sharing her age with others. “I love saying I’m 45. I’m forty fine. If anyone thinks they are throwing shade by mentioning my age, they have it all wrong,” she stated.

Tiwa shared that she didn’t release her first single until she was 31, reminding everyone that success doesn’t adhere to a strict timeline. She used her journey to inspire those who feel pressured by societal expectations regarding age, whether it’s not having a record deal by 25, not being married, going through a divorce, or not yet realizing personal dreams.

Reflecting on her life, the award-winning artist noted that she has experienced what society often judges harshly. She has been married, divorced, single, heartbroken, and now at 45. Instead of allowing these experiences to hinder her, she believes they have shaped her purpose.

“I have everything that should work against me,” she said, adding that God has transformed all her challenges into opportunities in her favor.
