Japan’s Tokara island chain has experienced 474 earthquakes since Saturday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. While no major damage has been reported, residents have been urged to stay alert, with experts warning a magnitude-6 quake is possible.
The strongest tremors so far were two magnitude-5.1 quakes. The region, prone to seismic activity, last saw similar events in 2023.
