50 Cent Says Kanye West & Nicki Minaj “Messed Up” Talking Politics

50 Cent is making it clear he wants no part of political backlash. While attending an event for his new film Moses the Black, the rapper joked that speaking out on politics can backfire, pointing to recent controversies involving Kanye West and Nicki Minaj.

“There’s two things they tell you to stay away from,” 50 said in a video captured by TMZ. “Religion and politics. No matter what you think, someone passionately disagrees with you. That’s how Kanye messed up. Then Nicki said some stuff.”

Both artists have faced backlash in the past for supporting Donald Trump, and Minaj recently found herself in another heated moment after criticizing former CNN anchor Don Lemon for his reporting.

Lemon responded by saying she was “out of her depth,” referencing his time at CNN. Minaj has also appeared at events hosted by Turning Point USA, including AmericaFest. The Trump administration is seeking to bring charges against him for entering a church to expose its pastor as an ICE agent.

“It’s notable that I’ve been cast as the face of a protest I was covering as a journalist — especially since I wasn’t the only reporter there. That framing is telling,” Lemon said in a statement. “What’s even more telling is the barrage of violent threats, along with homophobic and racist slurs, directed at me online by MAGA supporters and amplified by parts of the right-wing press.”

“If this much time and energy is going to be spent manufacturing outrage, it would be far better used investigating the tragic death of Renee Nicole Good— the very issue that brought people into the streets in the first place,” Lemon continued. “I stand by my reporting.”
