50 Cent wants to make one thing absolutely clear about Sean Combs: The Reckoning, the new four-part Netflix docuseries examining Diddy’s rise, power, and alleged abuse…. he was not the one pulling the creative strings, and the project was never about a personal score.
In a recent conversation with GQ alongside filmmaker Alexandria Stapleton, he addressed the speculation that his long, messy feud with Diddy is what fueled his involvement. According to 50, the truth is more complicated.
He said he stepped in because the silence from other major figures in hip-hop bothered him.
“If someone’s not saying something, then you would assume everybody in hip-hop is okay with what’s going on,” he explained to GQ’s Frazier Tharpe.
For decades, Diddy has been one of the genre’s most powerful figures. Now, the Bad Boy founder is currently serving a 50-month federal sentence for violating the Mann Act. The Netflix series includes newly unearthed footage from the days before his arrest, offering a broader look at his ascent and the allegations that followed.
Despite his well-documented history of clashes with Diddy, 50 Cent emphasized that the docuseries is not his personal takedown.
The project was initiated by Stapleton, who began developing it after Cassie Ventura’s lawsuit against Diddy became public. Her goal, he said, was to create a comprehensive portrait rather than focus solely on the criminal case.
50 made it clear he deliberately kept himself out of the narrative.
“There’s no place for me, I didn’t make the docuseries,” he said. “I got the best possible people to make one. That’s why you don’t feel anybody’s energy when watching.”
When asked whether he was using the documentary to settle old scores, 50 didn’t dodge the question.
“If it was [my agenda], I would’ve focused on the fact that you’re the only man in jail for transporting male sex workers.”
That hasn’t stopped accusations from flying. Before the show’s release, Diddy’s legal team sent Netflix a cease-and-desist letter, attacking the project as a “shameful hit piece.”
