THE Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of 53 individuals linked to a series of violent attacks in Benue and Plateau states, which have resulted in numerous deaths, injuries, and displacement of residents.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja today, the police chief described the June 13 attack in Yelewata community, Benue State, as a “coordinated act of terror.”
He disclosed that 26 suspects were apprehended in connection with the Yelewata massacre, while 22 others were arrested over similar attacks in Plateau State.
An additional five suspects were taken into custody in Benue following a more recent incident.
According to Egbetokun, the Yelewata assault left 47 people dead and 27 injured.
He also confirmed that law enforcement recovered two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles used in the operation.
