Tekashi 6ix9ine is weighing in on the growing “F–k the streets” movement started by Atlanta rappers 21 Savage and Young Thug.
Appearing on the One Night With Steiny podcast this week, the Brooklyn rapper shared his theory that the phrase, recently amplified by Young Thug and 21 Savage, could be a strategic move tied to Gunna. Gunna has faced backlash in the rap community following his plea deal in the YSL case.
“They realize that Gunna doesn’t need them,” 6ix9ine said. “Gunna is going to continue to prevail, continue to succeed without them.”
According to 6ix9ine, the movement flips the long-held street rules in a way that could make future collaborations more acceptable.
“If we create a movement saying f–k the streets, it’s going to make it OK,” he explained. “It’s like a jail free card. It’s saying, ‘We’re only letting Gunna in because the streets is dead.’”
He added, “They’re trying to make a loophole. You gotta create a movement where you confuse the fans.”
Earlier this month, both Thug and 21 Savage publicly declared the phrase on social media. On Dec. 17, 21 Savage urged unity, writing, “Y’all n—as fix that s–t y’all love each other,” before adding, “F–k the streets we ain’t get s–t but trauma from that s–t.”
Young Thug, days later then tweeted, “F–k the streets.”
