Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, on Wednesday, described the public celebration that followed the appointment of the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), as misplaced excitement.

Naijaonpoint reports that Adeyanju made his position known in a Facebook post on Wednesday, only hours after the retired four-star general completed a five-hour Senate confirmation screening.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Musa as Minister of Defence on Monday, following the resignation of former Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on health grounds.

Musa had previously served as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) until October, when he was relieved of the position.

Following his appointment, many Nigerians applauded the move, flooding social media with endorsements and high expectations tied to Musa’s military résumé and leadership profile.

But Adeyanju tore into the celebration, warning that the minister may still fail to deliver expected results if not properly checked.

In his Facebook missive, Adeyanju urged Nigerians to temper their optimism, tagging Musa a failed talkative former CDS.

“Mark this post. Absolutely nothing will come out of the appointment of General Chris Musa as Minister of Defence, a talkative who failed as CDS, but I join the prayer warriors praying for him to succeed since we have turned a simple thing like governance into a prayer venture,” he wrote.
