The African Action Congress, AAC, in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State has decried what it described as severe neglect along the Igando-Ikotun Road, accusing local authorities of allowing the corridor to degenerate into an “unofficial dumpsite.”
In a statement on Tuesday signed by its Alimosho LGA Chairman, Samuel Jimoh, the party faulted the Executive Chairman of Ikotun-Igando Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, and the Councillor representing Ward A, Omotosho Saheed Olateju, over the deplorable and embarrassing condition of the road median.
The AAC said the entire stretch from Igando to the Ikotun Roundabout has been overtaken by refuse, reducing a major transportation route to what it called a public health menace.
“The section from Igando to the Ikotun Roundabout has deteriorated into an illegal landfill. A route that should serve as a critical transport link is now littered with piles of decomposing waste,” the party said. “This is not just an eyesore; it is a looming health disaster for residents and commuters alike.”
Describing the situation as unacceptable, the party said no responsible local administration should allow the median of a major road to become a dumping ground.
“The people of Ikotun-Igando deserve dignity, not debris,” the statement added.
The AAC demanded immediate intervention from the LCDA, insisting that the chairman must act without delay to restore order and cleanliness along the corridor.
“We expect the Council Chairman to rise to his duties. Residents are not interested in excuses, they want a clean and healthy environment,” the party said.
It called for the urgent evacuation of the accumulated waste and the establishment of a stable and efficient waste management system to prevent a recurrence.
