The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has honoured His Highness, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, Kanwan Katsina III, with the prestigious “Media Supporter of the Year” award in recognition of his unwavering support for press freedom and the media profession in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has honoured His Highness, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, Kanwan Katsina III, with the prestigious “Media Supporter of the Year” award in recognition of his unwavering support for press freedom and the media profession in Nigeria.
The award was presented on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre in Abuja by the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Auwal Mohammed Jatau, who represented the Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.
In a congratulatory message, the President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), Ambassador Emmanuel Obi Okafor, mni, commended the traditional ruler for his lifelong dedication to public service, strategic communication, and national development.
“We joyfully convey our heartfelt congratulations to His Highness, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, Kanwan Katsina III, on this well-deserved recognition by the NUJ,” the statement read.
Ambassador Okafor highlighted Alhaji Kankara’s background as a member of the Senior Executive Course (SEC 35, 2013) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), where he served as Vice Chairman of Study Group One.
“AANI is immensely proud of his commitment to professional excellence and his remarkable contributions to journalism and nation-building. This honour by the NUJ is a testament to his enduring legacy in promoting media freedom and strengthening democratic values,” he added.
The statement, signed by Brigadier General S.K. Usman (rtd), mni, fnipr, AANI National Publicity Secretary, concluded with a message of goodwill: “We wish His Highness continued success and more accolades in the noble service of our country.”
The Kanwan Katsina III currently serves as the District Head of Ketare in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State and is widely respected for his advocacy for good governance, civic engagement, and media development.
