The remains of the Kaduna-based Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, who died in kidnappers’ custody, have been deposited at the mortuary of St. Gerard Catholic Hospital, Kaduna, a member of his family confirmed on Friday.
Achi, a cleric of the Anglican Diocese of Kaduna, who hails from Ukwani Local Government Area and is expected to be interred in his hometown, Umaaja, although no funeral date has been fixed.
Speaking on condition of anonymity with Punch, the family source disclosed that arrangements were progressing to convey the priest’s body home.
The source who explained that he was not authorised to speak publicly on the matter, said, “His corpse is at the morgue as we speak. We are preparing to take his remains home for final interment.
“No date has been fixed yet, but the church is doing everything possible to take the corpse home.”
Venerable Achi and his wife were abducted on October 28, 2025, when gunmen stormed their residence in Nissi Village, Nissi Village in Nissi Village, near the Kaduna Refinery.
They were whisked to an undisclosed location, and abductors later reached the family, slamming a staggering ₦600 million ransom demand.
But days later, the diocese confirmed the tragic news. In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the diocese described his death as a devastating blow.
“The Venerable Edwin, who was kidnapped alongside his wife on 28th October 2025, has been confirmed dead,” the church declared, describing the loss as painful to the entire diocese, clergy, and Anglican family.
