Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday presented a ₦644,004,816,893 appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Kwara State House of Assembly, with a strong emphasis on capital development and security.
The governor laid the budget proposal before lawmakers at the Assembly complex in Ilorin, describing it as a financial plan designed to consolidate development gains, complete ongoing projects, and respond to the pressing needs of residents across the state.
A breakdown of the proposal showed that ₦424.7 billion, representing 65.98 per cent of the total estimate, was earmarked for capital expenditure, while ₦219.3bn, or 34.02 per cent, was allocated to recurrent spending.
AbdulRazaq said the structure of the budget reflected his administration’s determination to prioritise infrastructure, social investments and projects that would have long-term economic impact.
“The total size of the budget for the 2026 fiscal year is ₦644,004,816,893,” the governor stated.
The governor disclosed that the 2026 budget placed strong emphasis on security, noting that increased funding had been provided for security hardware, operational vehicles and modern technology to strengthen the state’s capacity to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities.

According to him, the proposal was aimed at consolidating the administration’s development efforts while improving the welfare and safety of residents.

In his response, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu, assured the governor that the legislature would subject the appropriation bill to detailed legislative scrutiny in the overall interest of the people of the state.
“This bill will be given in-depth legislative scrutiny and come out with a bill that will be to the benefit of the people of Kwara State,” Salihu said.
He added that members of the House were encouraged by the spread of ongoing developmental projects across the 16 local government areas of the state and pledged that the budget would be carefully reviewed to ensure effective implementation.
