Abia Lawmaker Explains Why He Left PDP For Labour Party

The member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lucky Johnson, has revealed reasons behind his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP).

In an exclusive interview with THE WHISTLER on Thursday, Johnson, who was a key figure in the PDP, cited the party’s internal crisis and lack of direction as the primary reasons for his defection.

“The PDP has issues from the national level, and it’s affecting the state level. There’s no direction, no focus,” he said.

Recall that on Tuesday, during plenary, in a letter addressed to the Speaker Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Hon Johnson tendered his resignation letter from PDP and defected to LP.

When asked about his decision to defect, Johnson said, “I don’t operate in an environment that is not conducive. PDP has automatically lost its grip. I’ve done my best, so it’s time for me to move on.

“ I’m not a politician but I’m a man that believes in vision and objectives, and my objectives and vision is to make sure that Abia and Isukwuato is being captured to a greater height.

“So, if we are going to be leaving a life for our unborn generation, we should keep a legacy that when we leave here, people will say good things about us” He said.

The lawmaker also praised the governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, for his exceptional performance and commitment to the welfare of the people.

“The governor is doing extremely well. No right-thinking person in Abia State will be against the governor and be against the Labour Party,” Johnson said.

Johnson also expressed his gratitude to his constituents for their support and encouragement.

“My people have been wonderful. They’ve been supportive, and I’m grateful for that,” he said.

According to the lawmaker, his defection has been met with mixed reactions from his colleagues and the PDP leadership. While some have praised his decision, others have criticized him for abandoning the party.

He also noted that his chief of staff who resigned from his duty following his defection remains his friend.

“He’s still my friend, nothing changes. I can’t take him away from being from Isukwuato, besides He’s the party chairman of PDP. So, in a good sense of mind, he needs to resign from being my chief of staff.

“I’m not going to force him to join me on the LP. It’s a personal decision. He has his own decision to take as a family person, but I know in his spirit, he knows the truth” Johnson stated.

However, Johnson remains upbeat about his decision, saying, “I’m a progressive person, and I want to be part of a party that shares my vision and values. The Labour Party is the right platform for me, and I’m excited about the future.”

THE WHISTLER also reported that Johnson’s defection is seen as a significant boost to the Labour Party in Abia State, and it’s expected to have a good impact on the state’s politics in the coming months.
