Abuja Council Chairman dumps PDP, gives reasons

Christopher Maikalangu, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has dumped his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Maikalangu formerly announced his resignation from the PDP on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

In a statement issued by Kingsley Madaki, his media aide, the AMAC chairman said residents of the council are suffering from his PDP membership.

According to him, the residents lose out on benefits dues them, especially on federal job opportunities due to lack of support from the APC.

He also assured his constituents that following his decision to join the ruling party, there would be better opportunities for them.

“It was important we took a position, and the position we took is for the good of our democracy and to ensure that the good people of AMAC move forward.

“My people must know that for me to have made this decision, I considered the general interests of AMAC residents. I was not elected to lead the entire Nigeria; I was elected to lead AMAC residents.

“I looked at the interests of my people, and I have seen that these interests were not protected in any other party than the APC,” Maikalangu said.

He further urged residents of AMAC to keep emotions aside and understand how politics works, hence his decision to jump ship with the APC.
