Seven people have been confirmed dead in a fatal accident along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Yobe State.
Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred on Tuesday when the driver of a commercial vehicle heading to Maiduguri lost control of the wheel, causing the vehicle to somersault. Several passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Locals at the scene rushed to assist, evacuating victims to a nearby hospital. Medical personnel later confirmed that seven of the passengers had died on arrival.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, hospital officials reported that the injured are receiving treatment, with some in critical condition.
This is not the first deadly crash on the highway. In February, 10 people lost their lives in another accident after a truck carrying cement and passengers veered into a ditch.
At the time, Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesperson of the Yobe police command, said “the truck’s brakes failed, causing it to collide with a Sharon car before crashing.”
