The leadership of Accord party (AP) has debunked rumours of internal crises, describing the claims as baseless fabrications pushed by “political jobbers” and desperate opposition elements.
In a statement released by Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael, Spokesperson, Forum of State Chairmen (South West) and Chairman of Accord in Ogun State, the party reaffirmed that its National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, has not been suspended, contrary to widespread misinformation circulating online.
According to him, “it was clearly stated that ‘the rumour making rounds that our National Chairman, Mr. Maxwell Mgbudem, Esq. has been suspended, is absolutely and totally false.’
“it should be noted that we had a National Executive Committee meeting on 3rd December 2025 wherein a vote of confidence was passed on the National Chairman as well as on the whole National Working Committee. At no stage was there any form of disciplinary action against Mr. Mgbudem, as it had been widely disseminated.”
“Accord still remains a law-abiding and constitutionally-guided party,” he emphasized. “No person can bring chaos among us via baseless allegations.”
The party also rejected misleading information by a former Presidential Candidate, Prof. Chris Imumolen.
A faction of the Accord Party, reportedly led by Imumolen, had sharply criticized Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s defection to the party, describing the move as a ‘back-door entry’ and declaring it ‘invalid.’
Naijaonpoint reports that the Osun State Governor had announced his defection to Accord on Tuesday, citing the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Imumolen-led faction claims that Governor Adeleke’s move failed to follow proper party procedures, raising serious questions about the legitimacy of his reported action and his recent clearance as the sole governorship candidate.
However, Hon. Oke Rotimi explained that Prof. Imumolen was formally expelled from the political party due to several instances of anti-party conduct, which included: “Trying to assume a leadership role that he does not have. Attempted to hijack party structures for control. Aggressively muscling into a national secretariat in 2024. Causing internal confusion and disregarding party procedures.”
“Given such a track record, it is comical that an expelled member still presumes to have authority within the party. All reports issued from his camp should be disregarded, they do not and will not speak for Accord” Hon. Oke said.
Also, the State Chairman of Accord in Osun, Pastor Victor Akande, refuted the claims made against the party and its governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke.
Pastor Akande clarified that Governor Adeleke formally became a member of Accord on 6th November 2025.
He received public recognition from the party on 9th December 2025 and emerged as the valid winner at the Accord Party Primary conducted on 10th December 2025.
He challenged other political parties to display what they have achieved with their candidate instead of spreading deceit on social media platforms.
“Elections are not conducted on social media platforms. Those serious about competing should get out and demonstrate what they have achieved. Osun State is Accord, and Accord is Osun State,” he argued.
