Actor Lateef Adedimeji recalls threat from senior colleague

Lateef Adedimeji, an actor and filmmaker, has shared a memorable experience from his early career in the Yoruba movie industry, where a senior colleague predicted that he would fail within a year. In an interview with well-known media personality Chude Jideonwo, Adedimeji reflected on his journey to stardom.

He recounted, “Someone once told me in the Yoruba movie industry that he gave me one year to see what I would become. I told him to give me two years, and he would see what I could achieve.”

Despite facing negativity from some critics, Adedimeji credited his wife, Bimpe, as a significant source of support. He expressed gratitude for her unwavering encouragement, especially in the face of online trolls and hurtful comments, including accusations about her fertility. “Bimpe has been a rock for me, especially during the Lisabi project, which was a very challenging time,” he noted.

Adedimeji also shared his disappointment regarding people who had promised to support him during that project but ultimately did not show up. He reflected, “When I wanted to embark on my first big-screen job, Lisabi, I realized that those I thought would stand by me were not there; I was alone.”

Finally, Adedimeji spoke about how he proposed to Bimpe, saying, “I just called her one morning and asked if she would marry me, and she said yes.”
