Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has shared heartfelt reflections on emotional maturity, self-worth, and personal growth as she celebrates her 40th birthday.

In a video posted to her Instagram page on Monday, Adegbite opened up about some profound life lessons she has learned over the years, with one of the key insights being that “nobody owes you anything.”

“One of the most liberating truths you will ever learn, which will set you free from disappointments, heartbreak, and unmet expectations, is that nobody owes you anything,” she stated.

She acknowledged that while it is human nature to expect kindness, reciprocity, or closure, life often does not unfold in such a fair or predictable manner. The actress urged her followers to take full responsibility for their own peace and to let go of unrealistic expectations from others.

“Sometimes, the people you showed up for will not show up for you. Sometimes, your hard efforts will go unnoticed. Sometimes, the apology you are waiting for will not come,” she said.

“If you own anything, you make your life better. If someone shows you love, care, or attention in any form, it’s not your entitlement. They choose to care; they don’t have to. You are not owed anything, my darling. Not success, not opportunities. You have to work for it, and when it comes—if it comes—you must own it.”

Adegbite emphasized the importance of emotional independence, encouraging her audience to “observe, adjust, and keep moving” rather than surrendering their peace due to unmet expectations.

She concluded with a simple piece of advice: “Learn how to not be offended. It will help you greatly. That’s all I wanted to say today, my darling. Have a beautiful rest of the week.”
