Controversial Nollywood actress, Nkechi Blessing Sunday has recently shared a dating experience that left her questioning some men’s effort during talking stages.
She recounted how a man she had been chatting with in the UK reached out after she went silent, unaware she had a minor car accident that caused her tyres to burst. When she explained, “sorry I had a minor accident and I need to get two new tyres for my car,” he simply replied, “sorry about that babe, hope you were not hurt,” and ended the conversation with a brief “ok.”
Blessing criticised his response, saying a man trying to build a relationship should at least offer help. She said she expected him to ask, How much is the tyre, let me buy it for you, even though she could manage on her own. Instead, he told her, “oh sorry just get it sorted out.”
She went ahead to fix the tyres herself. Hours later, he followed up, saying, “sorry I’ve been in a very long meeting… I hope you’ve gotten your tyres fixed,” to which she replied, “of course I got two brand new tyres,” and ended the conversation.
She contrasted this with a male friend in Abuja, whom she described as a “perfect gentleman.” When she informed him about a gig in the city, he told her, “get a hotel and they can come get you the next day,” and when she offered to arrange it herself, he insisted, “no I got this.” Blessing explained the gesture wasn’t to impress her but was an example of how a thoughtful man should behave.
She explained that while she values independence, she also expects a man to demonstrate care and initiative. “It’s not about needing someone to pay for everything,” she said, “but it’s about showing that you are willing to step up when it matters.”
The actress concluded that if a man cannot show he is capable of taking care of her, she has no interest in pursuing a relationship. She added that she is single and “testing the waters” with multiple talking stages ongoing.
