Adam Driver's Star Wars Sequel Pitch Rejected By Disney

According to Adam Driver, who portrayed Kylo Ren, aka Ben Solo, he once pitched a Star Wars sequel. The potential movie would follow Solo, but unfortunately, Disney passed on the opportunity.

In an interview with The Associated Press’ Jake Coyle, Driver explained that he was always interested in working on more Star Wars films. The idea began to take shape in 2021 after Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, contacted him. The actor revealed that as long as there was a good creative team behind the project, he would be there in the blink of an eye.

I had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen (Kennedy) had reached out. I always said: With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second. I loved that character and loved playing him.

Driver explained that the film would pick up after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, the final film in the sequel trilogy. He wanted the film to further explore Kylo’s redemption arc. The actor believed that he felt like his character’s story was incomplete, and he wanted to give Ren the conclusion that he deserved.

Driver recalled taking his film (which would have been titled The Hunt for Ben Solo) to director Steven Soderbergh and then presenting it to Kennedy, Lucasfilm Vice President Cary Beck and Chief Creative Officer, Dave Filoni. Apparently, all three of them loved the idea. They were so excited that they even brought in Scott Z. Burns to write a script.

However, once they pitched to Bob Iger (CEO of The Walt Disney Company) and Alan Bergman (Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment), they were shut down immediately. The pair couldn’t see past Ren’s death and simply stated that the movie wouldn’t make any sense at all.

We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea. They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it. We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.

Soderbergh also chimed in with a statement. The director revealed that he had a lot of fun making the movie in his head, and he was disappointed that Star Wars fans would never be able to see the film.

While Driver and Soderbergh’s The Hunt for Ben Solo never came to fruition, there are several other Star Wars projects coming out that fans can look forward to. These include The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026), Star Wars: Starfighter (2027), and an untitled Dave Filoni project.

Disney and Lucasfilm representatives refused to comment on the rejected Star Wars pitch after The Associated Press reached out.
