Alhaji Bello Keegan has been reaffirmed the legitimate chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State.
The three senior officers of the party suspended by the committee are the State Secretary, Yusuf Alkali; the Assistant State Financial Secretary, Central Zone, Abba Galadima; and the State Publicity Secretary, Murtala Ali.
The suspension of the officers followed findings allegedly linking them to anti-party activities, breach of trust and actions deemed capable of undermining the party’s integrity.
A statement issued after an emergency meeting held on December 10, 2025 explained that the measures are meant to safeguard the stability and progress of the ADC in Sokoto State.
The statement was jointly signed by 25 out of the 33 members of the state executive council and endorsed by the Deputy State Chairman of the party, Bello Illela, on behalf of the 25 members.
It noted that the vote of confidence became necessary to maintain unity, stability and organisational discipline within the party.
According to the executive committee, Keegan’s reaffirmation reflected its commitment to strengthening internal democracy and protecting the party’s core values.
The committee warned Umar Mohammed and directed him to stop parading himself as chairman of the ADC in the state.
The committee described his actions as “fraudulent, illegal and intended to mislead the public.”
The ADC in Sokoto was recently engulfed by an internal leadership dispute, with rival factions making claims to the chairmanship.
The disagreements are believed to have emanated from alleged parallel meetings, conflicting directives and concerns about attempts to create a rival leadership structure.
The tensions, it is also believed to have prompted the state executive to convene an emergency meeting on Tuesday to clarify the leadership question, restore order, and prevent further fragmentation.
