The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a major step in its reorganisation drive ahead of the 2027 general elections with the nomination of Hon. Adamu Usman Tubo as Chairman of its Borno State Transitional Committee and Hon. Sunusi Lawan Badawi as Secretary.
The move, which followed a wave of political alignments and realignments across parties, is part of efforts by the ADC to reposition itself as a strong alternative platform in the state.
Tubo hails from the Southern Borno Senatorial District, while Badawi is from the Borno North Senatorial District.
According to a circular signed by the Assistant National Organising Secretary and North-East Organising Secretary of the party, Hon. Mohammed Abba Kyari, several prominent politicians from opposition and ruling parties have joined the ADC coalition movement.
Kyari noted that leaders and members defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party, Social Democratic Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, among others, with the aim of strengthening and repositioning the ADC ahead of future elections.
Among the notable figures who emerged as leaders and members of the ADC across various zones in Borno State are former APC chieftain and immediate past Chairman of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Mattawali Kashim Ibrahim-Imam; former APC governorship aspirant and Southern Borno senatorial aspirant in the 2023 elections, Alhaji Idris Mamman Durkwa; and former NNPP senatorial candidate in 2023, Alhaji Attom Magira.
Others include former House Minority Leader and APC governorship aspirant in 2019, Barrister Mohammed Kumalia, who also contested the 2023 Borno Central senatorial election on the platform of the PDP; former Speakers of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bukar Kachallah and Rt. Hon. Bulama Fugu; as well as youth stakeholders such as Hon. Sheriff Banki, Hon. Abba Haruna and Hon. Abba Masta.
It was gathered that the circular, dated December 18, 2025, and bearing the address Plot 121, Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, has gone viral.
The document was also copied to the offices of the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark; National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola; and National Organising Secretary, Barrister Chinedu Odigbo, last Thursday.
In the circular, Kyari explained the rationale behind the composition of the transitional committee.
He stated, “I, the Assistant National Organising Secretary/North-East Organising Secretary, Hon. Mohammed Abba Kyari, hereby forward the list of the Borno State Transitional Committee for your necessary action.
“The committee will be led by Hon. Adamu Usman Tubo from Borno South Senatorial District as Chairman, while Hon. Sunusi Lawan Badawi from Borno North Senatorial District will serve as Secretary. The members of the committee were selected strictly based on the criteria and consideration of political backgrounds, local governments, federal constituencies and senatorial districts.
“Please find attached the approved membership list and accept my highest regards.”
