Opposition leaders across Kaduna and Kogi states have launched a fresh political front on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), vowing to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

In Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, former Senator Tunde Ogbeha officially unveiled the ADC on Monday as the adopted coalition platform for opposition parties.

Naijaonpoint understands that the event, which drew top political figures from across the state, was covertly held following the reported death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“This gathering has been in the works for some time, but we had to scale down activities to honour the passing of a national figure,” Ogbeha said, referring to Buhari.

Buhari’s Legacy Now a Challenge for the Opposition – Achuba

Former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, framed the new coalition as a symbolic response to Buhari’s political legacy.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is seen as the father of the opposition. His move from 2013 to 2015, which brought various parties together to form an opposition, brought victory. Coming together to wrestle power remains the right direction to better the situation of the present Nigeria,” Achuba stated.

Naijaonpoint reports that prominent political leaders present at the event included Senator Dino Melaye, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi, PDP’s 2019 governorship candidate Engr. Musa Wada, and SDP’s Hassan Enape.

However, notable absentees included Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and former APC stalwart Muritala Ajaka.

Lukman Mobilises Kaduna Bloc Against Governor Uba Sani

Meanwhile, in Kaduna, opposition forces under the leadership of former APC National Vice Chairman (Northwest), Malam Salihu Mohammed Lukman, also declared their support for the ADC.

Lukman lampooned the APC government in Kaduna, led by Governor Uba Sani, accusing it of worsening hardship and promoting divisive governance.

“Successive APC administrations in Kaduna have worsened the socio-economic conditions of our people. We’re engaging with stakeholders across the 23 local governments to build a movement rooted in the people. The era of godfatherism is over,” Lukman declared.

Lukman further disclosed that the Kaduna opposition movement draws its strategy from the national playbook, which seeks to unite various blocs to present a single presidential candidate against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

“If we don’t build unity at the state level, there’s no way we can replicate that vision nationally,” he said.

The Kaduna coalition received the backing of high-profile figures such as Senator Nenadi Usman, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, Dr. John Ayuba, and Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati.

Both states are set to witness mass registration drives in the coming weeks as the ADC coalition prepares for grassroots mobilisation.

According to coalition leaders, the aim is to offer Nigerians a credible and truly democratic alternative ahead of the next general election.
