ADC Upholds Suspension Of Abia Chairman, Notifies NWC

Don Norman Obinna

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) State Working Committee (SWC) in Abia State has ratified the suspension of its chairman, Don Norman Obinna.

In a meeting held on Saturday, chaired by Kanu O. Kanu, the party resolved to take punitive measures against erring members, including members who attended a meeting convened by the embattled state chairman in defiance of “national party directives”.

The state chapter of the party has also written a formal notification to the National Working Committee of the party.

THE WHISTLER received a copy of the letter titled ‘Formal Notification of Mr Obinna Don Norman as Abia State Chairman of ADC’, dated August 25, 2025, and addressed to the National Chairman. The copy was signed and stamped as received on August 28 by the National Secretariat.

Recall that Obinna Don Norman was suspended during a harmonisation and unification meeting held on August 22 due to allegations of misconduct, high-handedness, and misappropriation of party funds.

The party alleged that Don Norman ran the party like a personal business, disregarding the State Working Committee and selling the party property.

“He runs the party like his personal business, disregards the State Working Committee, and even sells the party’s vehicles without approval,” Kanu stated.

However, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Chiamaka Ohaja, who is an ally of the suspended chairman, rejected the suspension, describing it as “null and void” and lacking the consent or approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Ohaja urged party members and the public to disregard the announcement and warned that those behind the “self-serving propaganda” would face disciplinary action.

An insider in the Abia State Working Committee disclosed to THE WHISTLER that a possible suspension or expulsion from the party may be imposed on Ohaja.

The source added that those who attended the meeting convened by the embattled state chairman may also face other disciplinary actions.
