National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ini Ememobong, has said the defection of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was the direct result of internal crises that the PDP leadership failed to address in time.
Speaking on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme aired on Tuesday, Ememobong described Adeleke as “a victim of circumstance,” adding that the governor’s exit could have been prevented through timely and decisive leadership intervention.
Ememobong noted that political conflicts, when ignored, tend to escalate, stressing that the PDP’s troubles were self-inflicted.
He said, “The situation was vicarious because every problem is human-caused and therefore should have a human solution.
“At the level of leadership to which he belonged in the party, the party ought to have acted decisively.”
Ememobong warned that unresolved disputes, if left unchecked, can consume even the strongest party members.
He said, “The challenge is that immediately we begin to feed the monster without knowing, we will end up in the belly of the monster.
“If we feed animals to the monster, and we think time will solve problems, time allows human beings to solve problems. It doesn’t solve problems on its own.”
Ememobong acknowledged that PDP leaders attempted dialogue instead of immediate action when early signs of crisis emerged in 2023.
He said, “You also cannot fully blame them. Sometimes they think that with negotiations, when passions are calm, people could reconsider their position, but unfortunately, it didn’t.”
He linked Adeleke’s eventual exit to unresolved issues surrounding the controversial PDP convention in Ibadan, which he said triggered mass expulsions, leadership changes, and internal rifts.
According to him, the governor’s departure stemmed from “circumstances arising from vicarious liabilities which he cannot completely extricate himself from,” signalling deeper, long-ignored fractures within the party.
