Ademola Lookman delivered a decisive performance for Atalanta on Monday night, scoring his 20th goal of the season in a vital 2-1 win over AS Roma that confirmed their qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, Footynaija.com reports.

Despite being a pre-match injury doubt, the Nigerian forward made an immediate impact at the Gewiss Stadium, opening the scoring in the ninth minute.

After receiving a smart pass from Charles De Ketelaere, Lookman turned sharply in the box and calmly fired a low finish into the bottom corner.

Bryan Cristante briefly brought Roma level, but Ibrahim Sulemana restored the hosts’ advantage in the second half to seal a hard-earned victory in Bergamo.

Speaking to DAZN as per TuttoAtalanta after the final whistle, Lookman shared his delight at the result: “We have qualified for the Champions League, it’s a great feeling: we are very happy with these three points,” he said.

“I tried to be available to help my teammates, we are a strong team and I did everything I could to be there. Tonight is a great night to celebrate.”

Lookman has now scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in 39 appearances across all competitions this season — a return that has drawn attention from top European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

His current form will also please Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle, who is preparing Nigeria for the crucial restart of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Lookman’s sharpness in front of goal could be vital as the West Africans aim to secure a spot at the tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

For now, though, the 26-year-old’s focus remains on finishing the season strongly — and his heroics on Monday ensured Atalanta will be rubbing shoulders with Europe’s elite next term.
