Former Everton striker Daniel Amokachi has singled out a number of standout performers who have lit up the group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.

Speaking on the tournament so far, Amokachi revealed how young players have impacted the games. Further, he noted that AFCON 2025 continues to show why African football has reached a competitive level.

Ibrahim Mbaye makes the difference at AFCON 2025

Amokachi reserved special praise for Senegal youngster Ibrahim Mbaye, who has impressed despite starting all three group matches from the bench.

“We’ve seen Ibrahim Mbaye, the 19-year-old Paris Saint-Germain player, with Senegal. Coming off the bench in all three group games, he made a difference — creating chances and providing assists. That shows real quality from a young player,” Amokachi said.

Onyedika, El Kaabi shine as impact players

Nigeria’s Raphael Onyedika also earned plaudits from Amokachi after growing into the tournament in his first game for the Eagles.

“Then there’s Raphael Onyedika, the Nigerian, who didn’t start the first game but came in during the third and has really stood out. I think he already has two goals,” he added.

Amokachi further praised Morocco striker Ayoub El Kaabi, describing his goals as among the finest at AFCON 2025.

“Another player is El Kaabi of Morocco. He has scored two of the best goals in the tournament so far. He didn’t start the first game either, but came on against Comoros and scored to give Morocco three points. Then in the final group game, he scored another spectacular bicycle kick to secure another win.”
