Former Nigerian permanent representative to the United Nations, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, says Africa is contending with more than 1,000 terrorist groups across the continent.
Gambari spoke on Monday while delivering a goodwill message at the Africa Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit in Abuja.
The summit is themed “Combating Contemporary Threats to Regional Peace and Security in Africa: The Role of Strategic Defence Collaboration.”
He said African militaries must work to secure their countries, their regions, and ultimately the entire continent.
Gambari also called for the revival of Africa’s defence industries and the protection of homegrown technologies from external control.
