Today, after more than a decade studying, teaching, and working with African studies, decoloniality, and Afro-diasporic knowledge production, I’m ready for the next step. In 2026, Rwanda, South Africa, and Ghana — I’m open to going to any African country. What I need is an opportunity to contribute
I HAVE a dream, a dream I’ve been carrying for almost 10 years. I want to live and work in an African country.
My journey started back in 2012, right after defending my undergraduate thesis. I told my IR coordinator at the time:
– I want to go to Rwanda.
– I don’t doubt that you will, he replied.
I went home and told my grandmother the same. She looked at me and said, “With what money will you go? You’re poor.” And we laughed.
Three years later, I was in Rwanda — thanks to a crowdfunding campaign, my savings from a small master’s scholarship, and the support of my grandmother and my aunt (who sadly passed away during COVID-19 in Brazil).
It was one of the most meaningful moments of my life. I finally understood what belonging feels like.
I tried to return, but life and finances got in the way. Later, during my PhD, I saved money to travel again — and then COVID arrived, postponing that dream.
Today, after more than a decade studying, teaching, and working with African studies, decoloniality, and Afro-diasporic knowledge production, I’m ready for the next step. In 2026, Rwanda, South Africa, and Ghana — I’m open to going to any African country. What I need is an opportunity to contribute.
