Aghahowa, Ikpeba Drum Support For New Super Eagles Coach, Eric Chelle

Despite the criticism directed towards the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for appointing Eric Chelle as Super Eagles coach, Aghahowa believes in giving the Malian the opportunity to succeed.

Aghahowa emphasized the importance of a fresh mentality within the national team. “I’m hopeful that he’ll infuse a different approach,” he told Brila FM.

“Our nation has abundant talent; what we need to focus on is enhancing the team’s work rate and overall attitude. The challenge has often been players transitioning from their clubs to represent Nigeria with the right mindset.”

Similarly, former Super Eagles star Victor Ikpeba called for unity and support for Eric Chelle as he steps into this significant role.

Acknowledging the mixed responses to Chelle’s appointment, Ikpeba, who serves on the NFF’s technical committee, stated, “It’s natural for such a high-profile appointment to generate varied reactions. This national team generates immense passion, and people will always have strong opinions about its leadership.”

Ikpeba reflected on the excitement surrounding the Super Eagles, noting, “No matter who the coach is—even someone as renowned as Pep Guardiola—there will always be differing views. Debate and discussion are essential ingredients for progress.”

Chelle is expected to arrive in Nigeria this weekend to finalize his contract, which is set for two years, paving the way for a hopeful new chapter for the Super Eagles.
