A former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, also known as Aisha Binani, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Naijaonpoint recalls that Binani had contested and lost the 2023 gubernatorial election against incumbent Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Fintiri emerged victorious with 430,861 votes, while Binani came a close second with 398,738 votes.
She served as Senator for Adamawa Central from 2019 to 2023 and previously represented Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Her husband, Professor Ahmed Modibbo, is a prominent figure from Yola and is touted as one of the richest individuals in the state.
Naijaonpoint reports that her defection is coming days after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Although, he is yet to official announce his new party, the former Vice President is expected to join Binani in the newly adopted opposition coalition platform.
Binani is also believed to now enjoy the backing of Atiku Abubakar, who has reportedly fallen out with his protégé, Governor Fintiri.
