Popular socio-political activist and co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has criticised the newly adopted African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition for failing to reflect inclusivity in its leadership structure.

Naijaonpoint reports that Yesufu, a vocal supporter of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, raised concerns on Wednesday over what she described as the continued sidelining of women and youths in key political decisions.

Taking to her verified 𝕏 handle, Yesufu faulted the current composition of the coalition, which she said is dominated by elderly men, warning that mere appointments of women and youth leaders are not enough.

She wrote, “Dear Coalition (ADC), women leader and youth leader positions cannot be what is reserved for women and youth.

“You see this table full of older generation men cannot be the only ones allowed to make the decision as we go on! Women and youth must be in the midst of decision-making and not as afterthought in the form of tokenism.”

Yesufu, known for her bold stance on governance and accountability, urged young Nigerians and women not to stay on the sidelines but to actively engage in party politics.

She added, “Dear women and youth, this is the time for the numbers. You have to be heard loud and clear. JOIN!

“Be part of the leadership! Be part of the delegates. Be part of floor members. Overwhelm for good! Bring in ideas from out of the box.”
