Activist Aisha Yesufu has been appointed Deputy Chairperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) membership revalidation committee.
The 20‑member committee was inaugurated on Wednesday by the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, who described the exercise as a significant step toward repositioning the ADC for “growth, unity, stronger cohesion and improved electoral competitiveness nationwide.”
In a statement during the inauguration, Mark said the revalidation initiative aligns with the ADC’s founding ideals of justice, equity, accountability and people‑centred governance.
He emphasised the importance of credible membership data, noting that such information is “essential to legitimacy, relevance and national political success.”
The former Senate President explained that the committee, created by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), would oversee a comprehensive nationwide exercise to revalidate existing members, conduct fresh registrations, mobilise grassroots support, harmonise data and deploy both electronic and manual platforms to ensure transparency and proper documentation.
Mark also disclosed that the party would issue new membership cards embedded with state‑specific security features, and urged all committee members to discharge their duties “with integrity, fairness and inclusiveness,” while working closely with state and local leaders nationwide.
The committee is chaired by Kashim Imam, with Dr Sekonte Davies serving as secretary. Aisha Yesufu’s appointment as deputy chairperson highlights the party’s desire to involve prominent civic actors in its restructuring process.
Speaking during the inauguration, Imam pledged a diligent and transparent approach to the assignment, describing the exercise as “a turning point aimed at rebuilding the ADC into an inclusive, people‑driven movement nationwide.”
He noted that the committee has 30 days to submit its report, and assured that work had already commenced to mobilise and register Nigerians across cities, rural communities, deserts and creeks.
