Ajaero’s summon: Peter Obi urges police to exercise extreme caution

His call for caution follows the NPF’s allegations of terrorism funding against Ajaero and his subsequent invitation to the police headquarters in Abuja.

In response to the invitation, the union has threatened to launch a nationwide strike if Ajaero is detained.

Speaking on the matter yesterday, Obi stated that the allegations against Ajaero were serious and unclear, and should be approached with care.

He remarked, “The NLC serves as a mediator for the Federal Government on various labor disputes and issues of national interest. Given this role, and without undermining due process, Mr. Ajaero leads an organization that should inform authorities of their methods and approach.

“The serious allegations mentioned in the letter of invitation circulating on social media are significant, and there is a lack of clarity regarding the circumstances. It is essential to determine whether these accusations pertain to personal behavior or responsibilities assigned to Mr. Ajaero as the recognized leader of the NLC.

“Therefore, extreme caution must be exercised in addressing this situation. It is not surprising that the government might attempt autocratic measures to undermine labor as a potential opposing force.

“Invitations like the one extended to Ajaero are not uncommon. However, it is crucial to uphold the rule of law and adhere to legal standards. Labor should focus on its strengths and powers to preserve democratic order and integrity.”
