American Singer, Akon, is facing a major change in his personal life as his wife, Tomeka Thiam, has filed for divorce just days before their 29th wedding anniversary.

Naijaonpoint reports that the court documents, obtained on September 12, revealed that Tomeka is seeking to end the marriage due to irreconcilable differences.

Tomeka, who has been married to the 52-year-old star for nearly three decades, is requesting joint legal custody and sole physical custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Journey.

She is also asking the court for spousal support while requesting that Akon not be granted any financial support in return.

The divorce brings fresh attention to Akon’s family life, which has often been surrounded by speculation.

The artist, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, has previously spoken about having nine children, seven boys and two girls, with different women.

He has also compared his role as a father to that of Nick Cannon, who is known for having a large family with multiple partners.

Although Akon has often kept details of his marriage private, he has occasionally addressed rumours about having multiple wives, choosing not to confirm or deny them.

With the divorce now in motion, the couple’s nearly three-decade relationship appears to be coming to an end.
