Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has described the death of former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, as a huge loss to Nigeria.
Ogbeh, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Minister in the first term of late President Muhammadu Buhari, died on August 9 at the age of 78.
He also served as Minister of Communications in the Second Republic.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio said Ogbeh lived a life defined by service and integrity.
“It is with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of Chief Audu Ogbeh, a distinguished elder statesman and a dedicated public servant,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President praised Ogbeh’s contributions to national development, especially in the areas of agriculture and rural development.
“Chief Ogbeh lived a life of service, integrity, and commitment to the development of our nation.
“As a two-time minister under different administrations, the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) contributions to agriculture, rural development, and nation-building will be remembered for years to come.
“Chief Audu Ogbeh was an intellectual storehouse, whose legacy of service and dedication to Nigeria is a testament to his character and commitment to public service. We will sorely miss him,” Akpabio said.
Akpabio, on behalf of his family, constituents, and the 10th Senate, extended condolences to Ogbeh’s family, friends, political associates, the people and government of Benue State, and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He prayed for God to grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss and for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace.
In his last interview before his death, Ogbeh expressed concerns over Nigeria’s future, describing himself as a sad man who nevertheless tried to find happiness.
