The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has hailed the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a man of deep principle and unwavering patriotism who devoted his life to serving Nigeria.

Naijaonpoint reports that Akpabio spoke on Thursday during a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session convened by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to honour the late leader.

Recall that Buhari died in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a brief illness and was buried on Tuesday in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.

In an emotional tribute, Akpabio said the former President’s life was defined by sacrifice, integrity, and national service.

Akpabio said, “He gave everything he had to a country that asked everything of him. President Muhammadu Buhari was not perfect, no leader is, but he was a very principled man.”

The Senate President added that Buhari’s legacy would live on in the history books, not merely for the offices he held, but for the convictions he stood by.

Speaking earlier, President Tinubu described Buhari’s passing as a “national loss,” saying his former ally embodied humility, restraint, and commitment to nation-building throughout his years in office.

Tinubu said, “His patriotism was lived more in action than in words. The authority in office never changed him in the face of crisis; he remained resolute.

“He was respectful without pretence to his peers. He was kind to those who served under him. Even in death, he maintained the serenity that defined him in life. He was, in every sense, a good man, an honourable man and a decent man.”
