A US-based humanitarian organisation, Equipping The Persecuted, has warned of an imminent plot by terrorists to carry out mass killings in several northern Nigerian communities on Christmas Day.
Founder Judd Saul disclosed the intelligence during a high-level roundtable in Washington DC on Wednesday, organised by the International Committee on Nigeria and the African Jewish Alliance.
The meeting, chaired by former congressman Frank Wolf, was attended by US lawmakers including Congressmen Riley Moore and Chris Smith, Senator James Lankford, members of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, and a Nigerian delegation.
Saul alleged that terrorists are regrouping along borders in Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kaduna states, specifically targeting areas like Riyom, Bokkos, Kafanchan, and Agatu for coordinated attacks.
“We got very reliable information that they are weaponising for a Christmas Day massacre,” he stated, urging the Nigerian government and US President Donald Trump to intervene urgently to prevent “a bunch of dead Christians in Nigeria.”
The warning forms part of ongoing international efforts to address persistent insecurity and alleged targeted killings of Christians in the region.
Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed awareness of the threat, with senior officers assuring that preventive measures are underway.
