All efforts by Victor Giwa, a popular Abuja lawyer to secure bail on charges of alleged forgery and impersonation against him have hit rock bottom following a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court’s decision on Monday.
The court sitting in Apo reaffirmed October 8, 2025, as the date fixed for Giwa’s arraignment.
Justice Onwuegbuzie sent Giwa back to the police cell effectively thwarting his efforts to secure bail from remand.
The judge was visibly and explicitly furious following the mention of Giwa’s bail application at the court today.
Onwuegbuzie queried the Police Prosecutor, Theophilus Silas and the defendant’s decision to appear before the court despite adjourning the matter to October 8.
During the sitting, Justice Onwuegbuzie declined to proceed with Giwa’s arraignment, citing that the case was not scheduled for a hearing.
Giwa, who is representing himself was arrested over a bench warrant issued against him on September 15, 2025.
His co-defendant, Ibitade Bukola, remains at large, with the police reportedly still on her trail.
Prosecution counsel who appeared on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) informed the court he was prepared for arraignment or to proceed with a bail application.
However, Justice Onwuegbuzie maintained that the matter had not been listed for hearing on October 6, stressing that the court had not granted any abridgement of time for arraignment.
Giwa and his co-defendant, Ibitade Bukola, are facing charges of alleged forgery and impersonation.
Their initial arraignment failed to take place on September 15, provoking the court to issue a bench warrant against both defendants.
While Giwa has since been apprehended, efforts to arrest Bukola are ongoing.
The duo are alleged to have inspired to forged a legal document purportedly issued by the chambers of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Awa U. Kalu, with the intent to mislead the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
The contentious letter had sought intervention to halt an arraignment scheduled before Hon. Justice Samira Bature of the High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on July 2, 2024.
