A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to Yakubu Adamu, the Commissioner for Finance in Bauchi State and three others in the alleged $9.7 million terrorism financing offences.
Adamu and his co-defendants, Balarabe Ilelah, Aminu Bose and Kabiru Mohammed, were granted bail of N100 million each by Justice Mohammed Umar on Wednesday, January 21.
Delivering the court’s ruling, Umar said the defendants have presented satisfactory materials to receive such benevolence from the court.
He also said that the court has only exercised its discretion in granting them bail while directing the defendants to produce two sureties each, who must be a permanent secretary and a director in the civil service.
The defendants were also mandated by the court to deposit their travel passports with the court registry and ensure they report to the Department of State Services every Monday until the matter comes to a definite conclusion.
Umar subsequently adjourned the matter to February 26, for the commencement of the trial.
Recall that the defendants are facing a 10-count terrorism financing and money laundering charges slammed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The trio, described as top Bauchi State civil servants were earlier denied bail in December by Justice Emeka Nwite, a vacation judge.
The weere, however, are-arraigned before Justice Umar with a fresh bail application which followed a re-assignment of the case.
