National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) star Michelle Alozie scored the match-winning goal for Nigeria to seal their place in the 2024 WAFCON final…
Houston Dash and Super Falcons star Michelle Alozie has expressed her joy and pride after Nigeria’s dramatic 2-1 win over South Africa secured their spot in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The cancer researcher was in action for the Super Falcons of Nigeria, where she delivered an impressive performance by scoring the winner.
Speaking to Nigerian sports journalist @Queen_Aeesha after the intense semifinal clash in Casablanca, Alozie reflected on the resilience of the team, especially after conceding their first goal of the tournament.
“This was our first game where we faced real adversity — a goal against us,” she said. “It took everything for our team to regroup and realize that this game was going to be 90 minutes, no more than that. We were just relentless, wanting to make sure we gave everything in those 90 minutes so we could win the game.”

Alozie played a pivotal role in the victory, delivering the stoppage-time cross that led to Nigeria’s winning goal. Her overlapping runs, and attacking instincts from the flanks were a constant threat to the South African defense.
Moments after the match, the 28-year-old took to her social media page to share her excitement. On X (formerly Twitter), she posted:
“COUNT IT!!!!! see you in the finals” she wrote.
The win over South Africa has placed the Super Falcons one step away from clinching their 10th WAFCON title. They will face the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco, who defeated Ghana in the semi-final, in the final showdown.
Alozie, who balances a professional football career with a background in molecular biology, continues to win hearts with her performances.
