Former Minister of Transportation and two-time Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has returned to his home state under a new political banner, marking his formal entry into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Naijaonpoint reports that Amaechi, who was previously a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, on Wednesday to a rapturous welcome from hundreds of supporters, who braved the rain to receive him.

Supporters of the former minister began gathering as early as 8 a.m., defying the downpour with drums and chants, as they awaited his arrival.

Amaechi eventually landed around noon and was immediately presented with the symbol of the ADC, signalling his full integration into the party.

In an address to the excited crowd, Amaechi declared, “I am now a full member of the ADC. The party has come to stay in Rivers State.”

He vowed to champion a new political era in the state, adding that Rivers had long gained infamy for election result manipulation. According to him, that would not be tolerated going forward.

Amaechi’s defection to the ADC follows mounting tensions within the APC, especially in Rivers State, where internal wrangling and factional disputes have weakened the party’s grassroots appeal.
