The unusually poor results triggered widespread protests, with many questioning whether there had been flaws in the examination process.

After investigating, JAMB discovered a serious technical error. During a press conference in Abuja last Wednesday, Prof. Oloyede revealed that nearly 380,000 candidates had been affected by server problems in Lagos and the South-East that failed to properly record exam responses during the first three days of testing. The glitch, caused by one of JAMB’s technology partners, went unnoticed until after the initial results were published.

To fix the situation, JAMB has arranged for impacted students to retake the exam between May 16 and 19.

The announcement has drawn mixed reactions across Nigeria, with some applauding the quick solution while others continue to express frustration over the error.

Reacting to the develoment, the Concerned Yoruba Muslim Scholars for commended JAMB under the leadership of Prof. Oloyede for demonstrating unwavering integrity in the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The scholars noted that under the Registrar’s leadership, JAMB has maintained strong financial and ethical commitment to transparency and academic excellence ensuring that the examination process is free from malpractices and biases.

The group of scholars added that the Registrar’s dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity has earned JAMB the trust and respect of students, parents, and the entire educational community.

They argued that while technical error that occurred in some centres in the examination is understandable once in a while in any human endeavour, it should not be used to condemend the JAMB boss.

“The technical error that occurred in some centres in the just concluded examination is understandable once in a while in any human endeavour and could not be used as yardstick to condemn the Registrar. Rather, it ought to be used to encourage upcoming leaders to emulate the uncommon integrity personified leadership style and financial prudence that has characterized the agency since his coming on board few years ago.

“We highly commend the Registrar for a job well done and look forward to continued excellence in the years to come,” the scholars said in the statement.
