The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to abandon any plans for the 2027 presidential race, insisting that his political influence has collapsed.
Naijaonpoint reports that the party made the remark on Sunday while reacting to Obi’s inability to deliver his polling unit for the Labour Party during the Anambra governorship election.
APC Lagos spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, mocked Obi’s credibility as a national contender, querying how he intends to lead Nigeria when he “cannot command loyalty in his own neighbourhood.”
In a strongly worded statement, Oladejo said Obi’s loss at his polling unit reflects a deeper collapse of the political momentum he rode on during the 2023 elections.
“A man who cannot win his polling unit has no business dreaming of winning a country. A man who is rejected on his street cannot claim nationwide acceptance. A man whose strongest base has crumbled cannot sell the lie of a national movement,” he said.
Oladejo added that the defeat marked “the complete disintegration of the myth around Peter Obi.”
‘We Hope He Won’t Run Abroad to Beg Again’ – APC
The party accused Obi of seeking foreign intervention after local setbacks, saying: “We sincerely hope Mr. Obi will not run to beg for foreign intervention to rescue him from this political free fall, as he has unashamedly attempted in recent times. Nigeria’s democracy is not a toy for desperate politicians seeking sympathy abroad after being rejected at home.”
Contrasting Obi with President Bola Tinubu, Oladejo said the President is consolidating governance while Obi is “granting contradictory interviews and hiding behind hashtags that collapse at the ballot box.”
“While President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is rebuilding institutions, fixing the economy, expanding infrastructure, attracting foreign investments, and restoring global confidence, Peter Obi is busy seeking international validation,” he added.
Oladejo emphasised that Nigerians will not entrust their future to someone who allegedly lacks the confidence of his own base.
“If Peter Obi cannot command trust in his polling unit, he should forget 2027. Nigerians will not hand over their destiny to a man whose own people have loudly withdrawn their confidence,” he said.
He added that the APC’s victory in Obi’s polling unit was “symbolic, conclusive, and prophetic,” claiming it reflected “the national mood.”
“Performance is triumphing over propaganda; structure is defeating chaos; delivery is destroying deception,” the Lagos APC advised Obi to address the issues within his political base before positioning himself as a national fixer.
“Peter Obi should spare the nation further melodrama. Let him first repair the political damage at his doorstep before pretending he can repair Nigeria,” Oladejo said.
