The Anambra State government has outlawed the payment of taxes and other revenues in cash as part of efforts to curb extortion and fraudulent acts.

This decision was reached at the state executive council meeting held on Monday, May 26, 2025, in Akwa, the state capital.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Mr Law Mefor, said it has now become illegal to receive cash payments as government revenue collection in the state.

He stated that all taxes, levies, charges, and others that are due in Anambra State would henceforth be listed and made public, advising residents to call law enforcement agents against illegal collection of these taxes.

The Commissioner also affirmed that to provide security for projects located in communities in the state, responsible government-community collaboration would be established.
