Andy Dick is heading to rehab after a chaotic and very public overdose that played out on the streets of Los Angeles and on camera.

The actor and comedian, 59, confirmed he has checked into a treatment facility in Palm Springs, California, just days after initially insisting he was not getting help.

“I’m not going to be in rehab,” Dick told a TMZ reporter earlier this week, before firing off a string of questions. “Do I need help? Do we all need help? Do you need help?” Things went left after disturbing photos and video showed the former NewsRadio star unresponsive on the sidewalk.

Dick later admitted the incident followed smoking crack cocaine with a stranger he had just met. Narcan was administered at the scene. Dick said he struck up a conversation with a man he felt sorry for who suddenly pulled out drugs. “And I’m like, ‘I might need a little bit of that,’” he said. “I wanted to see what he was doing.”

One of Dick’s friends revealed the overdose was caught on video because the comedian had been livestreaming his entire day. According to TMZ, Dick sounded upbeat and energetic during a follow-up call, cracking jokes and signaling that he was finally ready to get serious about sobriety.

“He’s ready to clean up,” a source told the outlet. Sober House founder Jennifer Gimenez confirmed Dick received a “full-ride scholarship offer” for rehab and is supporting him through the process.

Dick, who starred in The Andy Dick Show, has battled substance abuse for decades.
