Anglican Priest Achi Reportedly Dies In Bandits’ Den

Priest

Abducted Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, has reportedly died in captivity, SaharaReporters learned on Wednesday.

Naijaonpoint reports that the priest and his wife, Sarah Achi, were kidnapped from their residence in the Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, close to the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025.

Before the tragic development, the bandits had sent photographs of the couple to their family as proof of life while demanding a ransom of ₦600 million.

The images seen by the family showed the priest and his wife in a visibly distressed condition. Other captives were also spotted in the photographs, reportedly chained and showing signs of severe malnourishment.

A source who spoke to SaharaReporters on Wednesday night disclosed that Achi, the Priest-in-Charge of the Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, Kaduna, died in captivity.

The source affirmed that the priest’s condition deteriorated before he eventually passed away while being held by the bandits.

In a separate attack earlier reported by SaharaReporters, bandits killed two police officers in the Southern Kaduna region.

A resident confirmed that the attack occurred last Friday at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa town, which is also the administrative headquarters of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

The officers were reportedly killed inside the police divisional facility during the assault, according to community accounts.
