The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered another setback following the resignation of the senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo.
In a resignation letter dated January 10, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Galadimawa Ward in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the lawmaker announced his immediate withdrawal from the opposition party.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Galadimawa Ward, Doma Local Government Area, with effect from today, 10th January, 2026,” the senator stated.
Explaining his action, Onawo said his decision followed deep reflection and was motivated by personal considerations.
“This decision was taken after careful consideration and purely for personal reasons,” he said.
The lawmaker, who is also known by his traditional title, the Ciroman Doma, expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity it gave him to serve.
“I remain deeply grateful for the trust, cooperation, and support I received throughout my time in the party,” he added, while wishing the PDP continued progress and success.
Onawo’s exit adds to the growing list of high-profile defections rocking the PDP nationwide amid lingering internal crises and leadership disputes.
In recent months, several serving lawmakers and former governors have dumped the party, fuelling concerns about its unity and electoral strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although the senator did not disclose his next political move, the African Democratic Congress Vanguard hinted on 𝕏 that Onawo may be considering joining its emerging coalition.
His resignation is expected to further reshape political alignments in Nasarawa State and the wider North-Central zone, with observers closely watching its implications for Senate dynamics and the state’s political landscape.
