Antony Starr Unrecognizable As Andy Warhol In Basquiat Biopic Samo Lives

Antony Starr, best known for his role as Homelander in Prime Video’s The Boys, is unrecognizable in set images from Samo Lives. Starr has been part of The Boys‘ cast since season 1, along with voicing Homelander in The Boys Presents: Diabolical and making an appearance in the season 1 finale of the Gen V spinoff series.

Ahead of The Boys season 5, which has finished filming and is slated to be released in 2026, Starr is now filming for Samo Lives. The film is a biopic about the iconic artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, who was most famous for his graffiti art and neo-expressionist paintings. Kelvin Harrison Jr. is playing Basquiat while Starr plays another iconic artist, Andy Warhol.

Getty has the first look of Starr as Warhol, who looks unrecognizable with silvery-gray and wavy hair and large glasses while wearing a blue turtleneck sweater, a black jacket, and blue jeans. He smiles as he walks through the park, holds an album, and has a camera draped around his neck.

Starr’s appearance looks remarkably similar to the real Warhol and is nothing like what The Boys fans are used to seeing from him. Playing a real, well-known, influential, and eccentric artist is a drastically different role from Homelander, and one that the actor is already fully immersing himself in.

Andy Warhol

In addition to Starr and Harrison Jr., Samo Lives‘ cast includes Jeffrey Wright (Westworld), Danny Ramirez (Captain America: Brave New World), Kathryn Newton (The Society), Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Thomas Kretschmann (The Pianist), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Chase Sui Wonders (The Studio), and Priah Ferguson (Stranger Things). It is directed and written by Julius Onah, who previously directed Captain America: Brave New World and The Cloverfield Paradox.

The title of the biopic movie is a reference to Basquiat and Al Diaz’s graffiti tag. Along with Basquiat and Warhol creating distinct art containing important social commentary, the two grew close to each other on a personal level, a relationship that the film is poised to explore.

As the only confirmed project that Antony Starr has lined up after The Boys, seeing him play Warhol in Samo Lives is the best way for fans to continue following his career after the hit Prime Video series concludes with its fifth and final season. The film is an opportunity to learn about Basquiat, Warhol, their relationship, and the enduring impact of their art.
