The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has agreed to adopt the consensus option for the selection of party officials at the ward, local government, state and national levels ahead of its forthcoming congresses.
The decision was taken on Tuesday during an expanded meeting of the State Executive Council held at the Government House in Lafia.
Naijaonpoint reports that the resolution followed a motion moved by the party’s Legal Adviser and supported by Governor Abdullahi Sule, allowing non-executive members to participate in deliberations at the meeting.
The move widened stakeholder participation and paved the way for broader consensus in the party’s decision-making process.
Following this, the state chairman of the APC, Dr Aliyu Bello, invited Hon. Hassan Abubakar Nalaraba, who represents Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and is also a member of the state executive, to formally move the motion on consensus.
“I rise to move that this expanded State Executive Council resolves to adopt consensus as the preferred mode for selecting party officials at ward, local government, state, and national congresses, provided it is transparently and voluntarily achieved by all stakeholders. I so move,” Nalaraba said.
The motion was seconded by the Deputy National Secretary of the APC, Prof. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana (SAN).
Former governor of Nasarawa State and ex-National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who presided over the meeting, subsequently conducted a voice vote, which saw members unanimously endorse the decision.
In his opening remarks, Dr Bello said the meeting was convened to brief party leaders and stakeholders on recent developments within the APC, particularly changes under the new national leadership.
He added that the party continued to enjoy growing acceptance across the state, noting that more politicians were defecting to the APC.
Consensus Will Promote Peace – Sule
Governor Sule welcomed the adoption of consensus, describing it as a proactive step that would help prevent internal disputes during the congresses.
“You’ve reduced potential challenges. Our congresses will now proceed by consensus, decided by you and brought back to us,” the governor said.
He also reiterated his commitment to the principle of zoning, stressing that it played a critical role in his emergence as governor and had continued to promote political stability in the state.
Governor Sule further used the occasion to highlight some of the achievements of his administration, describing 2025 as the most resource-rich year in the history of Nasarawa State.

Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi; members of the National and State Assemblies; serving and former government officials, as well as other key stakeholders of the APC in the state.
