APC Elects Delegates Ahead Of Rivers Assembly Bye-Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has conducted its ward congresses in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas of Rivers State to elect delegates for the upcoming House of Assembly bye-elections scheduled for February 21.

The ward congresses, held across all wards in Ahoada East State Constituency II and Khana State Constituency II, were described by party officials as peaceful and orderly.

In Ahoada East Constituency II, the exercise was supervised by the APC Congress and Primary Committee, chaired by Shehu Dange, with Smart Iheanazor serving as Secretary. The team also included members of the party’s appeal panel.

Naijaonpoint reports that observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by the Assistant Electoral Officer for Operations, Okogbule Emilia, monitored the exercise across the six wards.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) were deployed to maintain order.

The party confirmed that five delegates were elected from each ward through voice voting, in line with APC guidelines.

In Khana LGA, the delegate congress was similarly conducted under the supervision of another APC team headed by Oyoala Peter. INEC officials and security operatives were also present.

Like in Ahoada East, five delegates emerged from each ward, bringing the total number of delegates who will vote in the forthcoming party primaries to a significant figure.

At the conclusion of the congresses, APC officials expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the exercise, noting that it marked a crucial step in the party’s preparations for the bye-elections.

“We are pleased with how peaceful and transparent the process was across both constituencies. The turnout was impressive, and the party faithful conducted themselves responsibly,” an APC official said.

The Ahoada East II seat became vacant following the resignation of Edison Ehie, who was later appointed Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

On the other hand, the Khana II seat has remained vacant since the death of Dinebari Loolo in September 2023.
